About

I attended the Chesterfield School art studying Sculpture, Fine Art and Architectural Drawing. When Chesterfield twinned with Darmstadt in 1959 the town council commissioned me to produce a painting of the famous Crooked Spire Church to present to Darmstadt. After art school I spent a few years profitably painting the mountain scenes in oils around the Austrian Tyrol. Eventually moving into the design of fabrics mainly in tweed and cashmere. Working with such designers as Mary Quant and Donal Davies. Although the textile industry became my main income I continued to paint and sell my work. Doing commissions for the Chatsworth estate and also working with galleries in Derbyshire and Yorkshire. These include the Sutcliffe and Mercer Galleries in Harrogate, The Look Gallery in Helmsley and The National Trusts Fountains Hall. In addition my wife and I sell through “The Art Gallery” on line in Newark. We open our home to the public to exhibit our paintings each year. I specialise mainly in landscapes in Pastel, Acrylics, and Pen and Wash. I am inspired by our ever changing scenery and climate.

About my work

Why I enjoy painting

The call of my ancestral farming roots became too strong to ignore! So my wife and I bought a farm high up in the Yorkshire dales and bred pedigree sheep and cattle. As President of the Highland Cattle Society I was able to travel and paint throughout Scotland, England and Northern Europe.
A deep connection with the natural world inspires my art, and have been able to share this with the people who have bought my paintings worldwide.
