I have always relished trying new crafts. A few years ago I began using a combination of freemotion embroidery (drawing freehand with my sewing machine) and hand embroidery, to create textile art inspired by my country walks. Over the last 12 months I have started painting with watercolours. In early 2025 I took up, and am thoroughly enjoying, linocut printing. Other than attending several short courses to develop my skills, I’m self-taught. I take inspiration from many artists in various media.
My first exhibition – The Yorkshire Wolds: a Hidden Gem – was at York Hospital over the summer of 2024 and many of the pieces are now on permanent display at Bridlington Hospital.
I live in Hampsthwaite, although I was born and brought up in West Yorkshire. Living on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales is wonderful and very inspiring for my art. Our family spare time (with my husband and two spaniels) has always been spent walking – be it in the Dales, the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Wolds or coast. I love to learn about the wildflowers and wildlife we see and hear on our walks, then use this knowledge in my art work.
