Heritage Crafts at the Nidderdale Museum.
Discounted entry for NiddArt Trail; £4/adult, children under 16 free | There is one flight of stairs but a stair lift is available
Explore Nidderdale’s extraordinarily rich and diverse history of crafts; get up close to the work and tools of over 20 different heritage crafts as you tour through our 13 themed exhibition spaces.
A free information sheet will be provided to guide you to some of the highlights.
We’ll also be setting out a mini-exhibition of books from our archives on yorkshire crafts and individual traditional crafts.
When your visit is over, you will have been inspired by the skills and artistry of hundreds of past craftspeople including stone masons, miners, carpenters and joiners, coopers, cloggers, bootmakers and cobblers, saddlers, farriers and blacksmiths, weavers, tailors and dressmakers, clockmakers, leathersmiths, glassblowers, all sorts of handicrafts from knitting to rug prodding, lace making to quilting… and including a few surprises such as exquisite nineteenth century floral displays crafted purely from butter (sadly, only the photos remain but fancy butter-making was a big deal back then and was demonstrated to Queen Victoria).
