About

Douglas Black is a multidisciplinary fine artist whose practice moves between papercutting, installation, performance, socially engaged art, and inclusive arts facilitation. Based in North Yorkshire, his work is rooted in dialogue, participation, and the relationship between aesthetics and access. Alongside an independent studio practice, he has spent many years developing collaborative arts projects with neurodiverse and disabled artists through organisations including Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre and TAG – The Art Guild CIC.
He is currently undertaking a PhD in Fine Art at Teesside University, where his research examines disability arts, inclusive aesthetics, and the tensions between participatory practice and contemporary art criticism. Across both academic and public contexts, his work asks how art can remain formally and conceptually rigorous while also being accessible, relational, and rooted in lived experience.
