About

Ruth began her art education at Harrogate College in 1989 and later went on to specialise in mosaics. Having studied the technique in Harrogate and later in Ravenna, Italy, Ruth has developed her skills as a mosaic artist over many years.
She is now based in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire, where she works and runs workshops from her home studio.
Her work has developed with time and has been expressed in various ways with varying aspects of mosaic creation resonating with Ruth at different times. These have been in the techniques she uses, experimentation with materials to see how mediums work together, and the development of the designs themselves through the ever changing inspirations.
Some of the larger public pieces Ruth has been commissioned to do include The 50mtr long mosaic at Robin Hood’s Bay, A large circular mosaic in The Victoria Quarter in Leeds, a commemorative bench on the set of Coronation Street.

My work

About my work

After trying and working with different materials over the years I have been drawn to the unglazed porcelain range of tesserae. The colours and tones available are very soft and subtle and I find them conducive to the subject matters I create. I also like mixing the unglazed tiles with small glass gold/copper/silver leaf to add interest and a lift. Currently I seem drawn to perspective and tone, buildings, streets scenes and recreating old family photo’s.

I work from my studio at home set in a beautiful location which is inspiring in itself and run workshops from there throughout the year. Running them from my home studio just outside Glasshouses, all the materials , tuition and a choice of bases to work onto plus a 2 course homemade lunch are included for £75 . The workshops will run every Saturday from 15 August until the end of October…. 10am until 4.30 pm.
