Using a combination of freemotion embroidery (drawing freehand with my sewing machine) and hand embroidery, I create textile art inspired by my country walks. I love to explore landscapes and to learn about the flora and fauna I encounter. I then find ways to bring the joy of nature indoors with fabric, lace, watercolour and thread. Other than attending several short courses to develop my skills, I’m self-taught. I take inspiration from many artists in various media.
My first exhibition – The Yorkshire Wolds: a Hidden Gem – is on show at York Hospital over the summer of 2024.
I live in Hampsthwaite although I was born and brought up in West Yorkshire. Living on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales is wonderful and very inspiring for my textile pieces. Our family spare time (with my husband and two spaniels) has always been spent walking – be it in the Dales, the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Wolds or coast. I love to learn about the wildflowers and wildlife we see and hear on our walks.
