About

As an artist and creative, colour is like oxygen to me and is central to how I develop my paintings. Though the subject matter of my work may vary, colour is a constant. I adore colour and I never tire of its ability to create mood and to express or arouse an emotion whether it be a figurative painting or a scene from nature.
Inspiration for my work often comes from nature (via dog walks) and moments of everyday life – a beautiful flower blooming in my garden will stop me in my tracks, a rustic cottage I’ve walked by, an old photograph will transport me to a bygone era and memories of my childhood, or a poem/quote I’ve read that has moved me.
I may begin a painting with an idea of the direction I want it to take but I also am deeply aware that for me, painting is more of a dialogue and will engage with the push and pull of this.
Above all, with whatever I create, I seek to remind myself and others that beauty and simple pleasures are always nearby and can enrich our lives beyond measure.
