I like to print on paper and fabric, I like to experiment and see what happens, I like drawing – particularly flowers, and particularly wild ones, as I have done since I was a kid and their essence is part of my connection to the natural world. I like to focus on things for long periods. Like a tree I know, or a plant species or a sweep in the road. I etch, mono print, screen print, and often combine the techniques to achieve more depth. I print cushions and embroider them to relax, enjoying the timelessness of a sewing needle’s rhythm and I machine embroider textile wall art. I also make things out of bits of old, reclaimed things as I am a collector by nature. Proud to be eclectic.
Hi I live in Bewerley and have spent many years teaching, first as an English teacher, then as an Outdoor Education teacher at Bewerley Park Centre. The latter has given me a passion for Nidderdale, from it’s open moorland landscapes down to the wonderful meadows and roadside verges. Being from a farming background I have to be outside to be completely at ease – and I like to explore and wander about! I was lucky enough to return to college to study for a foundation degree in “Contemporary Textile Practice” at Hartlepool college of Art and Design. This inspiring experience, drawn out over four years, gave me such diverse skills; and a joy in experimentation which has led me down a route of being an excited “jack of all trades”. I run my own gallery/shop “Jack Albert & Gill 2”.
The NiddArt Trail is a showcase of art and creative work by the local artists, crafts people and makers of Nidderdale and surrounding areas
