Art at Wildish
About
-
Wilidish is a coffee shop in Patelely Bridge that is run by a family of artists. We will be unveiling a map of Nidderdale drawn by Jonny Boatfield and we will have a number of other pieces of his on show. There will also be lino prints by Nell Wharton and Illustrations by Danny Boatfield.
Our featured artist will be Jonny Boatfield – He graduated from The Royal College Of Art in 1984 where he studied under Quentin Blake and in 1986 won the Creative Futures Illustrator of the Year competition held in London and Amsterdam.
Since then he has created a number of installations across the country. He has been artist in residence at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the Barbican in London, and The Museum of London. He has done innumerable art workshops up and down the country with all ages and abilities of people, and almost 50 big draws (free two-day workshops building large collaborative installations).
In 2000 he wrote and illustrated The Twilight Book, and has since illustrated a number of other titles.
“Coming across Jonny’s work is like discovering the Dead Sea Scrolls for yourself”, says DDB art director MARK REDDY. Billing him as the ‘greatest draughtsman I’ve ever seen’, Reddy has a string of eulogies at hand – ‘an extraordinary brain, a visual feast, baroque crammed with devices. He does not create a single image but a maelstrom of the world, a philosophy.” – CAMPAIGN MAGAZINE annual Creative Futures blurb:
