About

Anna Lilleengen (MA with distinction in Time and Image Based Media, 2012 Leeds Metropolitan University) is a process-driven fine art photographer who uses the physical structure and limitations of the medium to create sculptural pieces that explore materiality and transient states of being.

Based across Scandinavia and North Yorkshire, her romantic images exteriorate inner conditions of the psyche and explore their reflection in the Northern wilderness landscape.

As ethereal and other-worldly as the aurora borealis, the lights and colours of her images are entirely the result of natural light onto film or light sensitive materials, developed with traditional processing techniques.

Anna is brought up and lives in Harrogate. A lot of her local work is made in or on the edges of Nidderdale, a landscape that she knows well from growing up in the nearby town. The landscapes around Pateley Bridge are areas that she returns to frequently to explore and photograph.

A member of Number 6 Gallery’s Professional Artist’s Networking Group (PANG), she has exhibited at the gallery at Pateley Bridge’s King Street Workshops in December 2019, and has a small exhibition planned at Number 6 Gallery for October 2020.

She is currently exhibiting at the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate.
